Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet, and playwright Pablo Picasso was born in Spain in 1881

Pablo Picasso's iconic artwork “La Plage, Juan-les-Pins” will soon find a new home in Lodha Altamount, Mumbai with the recent private sale of the masterpiece by Christie's to the Lodhas.

解释和历史意义of the artwork, Jason Carey, Director - Impressionist & Modern Art, Christie's London said, "The Lodha acquisition, 'La Plage, Juan-les-Pins', is an exquisite example of Pablo Picasso's work from a seminal date of 1937, which Christie's was very privileged to research. The painting originates from an important private collection located in Great Britain. Dating from only a few weeks after 'Guernica' (a mural-sized painting that the Spanish artist completed in 1937)—likely Picasso's most celebrated painting documenting the horrors of the Spanish Civil War—we believe this composition, with its vibrant colour, beach subject and luminosity, presents a jovial and happy contrast to the severity of the black and white 'Guernica'."

Adds Carey, "Picasso likely felt a satisfaction upon the completion of the major wartime project, and was enjoying himself with some of his closest confidants in the south of France, although this composition also incorporates some of the tension of the War years in its sharp angularity of shapes, a common stylistic feature of the late 1930s. Therefore, this work is a prime example of the eclectic nature of Picasso's technique and mindset during this turbulent period in European history."

The masterpiece will soon move to its final resting destination at Lodha Altamount, which is one of the most prestigious developments of the Lodha Luxury Collection, where it will be displayed at the Tea Room.

Vinti Lodha, wife of Mr. Abhishek Lodha, Managing Director, Lodha Group said, "With this masterpiece, we aim to bring together the very best of art and sculpture from across the globe and embellish the opulent ambience of the luxury projects. We are extremely delighted that not only our patrons but several families will be able to see and admire this fabulous art piece and we also hope that this will encourage the cause of aspiring artists in our country.”

'La Plage, Juan-les-Pins' was purchased earlier this year through Christie's and the entire process took over 18 months. The artwork was sold with a photo-certificate from the Picasso Administration, signed by the artist's son Claude Picasso, certifying the work's authenticity, as well as a hand-written letter about the painting and series from his daughter Maya Widmaier Picasso. The artwork is also included in the book “Essential Picasso”, by Laura Payne (1999).
