This interior designer’s coastal home is illuminated in a sea of white

Carlos Serra has carved his very own minimalist den in Javea, Spain, by the Mediterranean Sea

Unfiltered brilliant white pours through every inch of this home in Javea, a coastal town by the Mediterranean Sea in Valencia, Spain. The home's owner, Carlos Serra, the interior designer at studio Mercader de Indias, has decked it with furniture from his travels, all in shades of the earth, shining from the white canvas like that of a painting.

Walkthrough of Carlos Serra's Living Room

Generous in space, light and energy, Carlos Serra's home has different levels to it, and they all revolve around the cavernous dining room. Its ancient Chinese doors (with crockery and tableware), a white dining table surrounded by six African armchairs, and a wide work cupboard reflect the home's inclusive nature in its very core. The dining room merges with the kitchen, bringing about a collaboration between creation and indulgence—all in the same space.

The living room is made up of a large sofa closing around the fireplace, a Moroccan auxiliary table with marquetry in mother of pearl and a four metre chest made entirely of washed elm wood. A comfortable sofa closes around a large fireplace on which rests a Mao child's outfit. At the back of the sofa lies the chest and a Moroccan auxiliary table with marquetry inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Old hydraulic black and white tiles have been chosen for its ceiling and base, neatly complementing the black appliances. The coffee table made of Philippine pineapple fibre fabric with a traditional ethnic drawing is a fine example of materials drawn from nature — wicker, cane, rattan and raffia — textures that dominate the house.

Walkthrough of Carlos Serra's Bedroom

Serra's bedroom also doubles up as the home office—the bed's headboard is the designer's work desk. The bathroom comes with an outdoor shower with latticework by designer Patricia Urquiola and an Aztec figure from the Larco museum in Lima, Peru.

第一级是绿色和灰色,在哪儿e as the upper level displays the different shades of blue to give a sense of the oceanic views that come with the house. The upper floor has a central living room that leads us to the lounge and pool area. Indian daybeds lay by the pool, which has two porches bordering it, the other with a compilation of hats, a bench and two tables. You can spot a mixture of blues on the rugs, bedspreads and sheets and decorative elements on the two bedrooms on this level. A striking bathroom built on terracotta enamelled in blue, connects both the rooms.
