When Aditi Vora Nair ofAVN Interiorswas entrusted with redesigning an 1,800-square-foot Bandra apartment that overlooked the sea, she knew every space had to be designed to highlight the beautiful view. The result is a fluid space, resplendent in blacks, white, greys and hints of gold. Here, floor-to-ceiling windows facing the sea become like constantly changing canvases, that bring to life to the luxurious and largely monotone interiors. “The decision was made to keep the interiors as subtle as possible with monotones—almost allowing the hues of the sea and the sky to add the colour required,” explains Nair.

Carving Spaces
The idea was to transform a two-bedroom home into a three bedroom that accommodated a couple and the growing needs of their 16-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son. The designer says, “The apartment was a large 2BHK with a separate den. Though well-maintained, it had lots of pockets of spaces that could be utilized better. The kids were sharing a large room andbathroom. The space had to be re-planned to accommodate individual rooms for them with separate baths.”
Aditi broke down everything except structural columns, and focused on creating a “modern minimalist” home that gave each family member the private sanctum they needed. She also created extra storage space—“Our client loved storage and the excitement was immense every time we found a new corner to add storage," she laughs.

当你进入,你受到一个郁郁葱葱的ving and dining area overlooking the sea. Besides the view, the other scene-stealer is a customised glass light that drops on to the dining table. A glass partition separates the dining and terrace bar. The latter, Aditi shares, is among the favourite spaces of the family. The bar further opens into the main bedroom, with an attached walk-in-closet and bath, resplendent in black and white.
A concealed door opposite the dining leads to a kitchen, and the daughter’s bedroom—the latter, an airy white space, with a window seat, cane wardrobes and sea green accents. Across, is the minimally designed son’s room featuring a low bed and chevron veneer for the wardrobes.

Neutral Palette
Wanting to highlight the stunning sea views, Aditi stuck to a black, white and grey palette—peppering it with glimmers of gold to add an element of luxury. The designer says, “All materials used follow a similar colour palette making the space as calm as the waters of the sea it faces.” Lasa white Italian marble runs through the house. Breaking the monotony, the primary bathroom features panda marble and a powder room is dressed in black Saint Laurent. Hints of dull gold appear throughout, like in the lights of the primary bedroom, gold bathroom fittings, and in decorative accents peppered through the house. Little pops of colour show up in soft furnishings or accent furniture pieces in the kids' rooms—rust cushions in the living room, and a sea-green window seat in the daughter’s bedroom. A calm energy reverberates through the home, a combination of the grounding views and the minimalist, reassuring interiors.
