Spread over 3,067-square-feet and built over two levels (a ground floor and an upper floor) plus a roof terrace, thisfour-bedroom houselocated in Tulum, is enveloped within a charming natural environment. CO-LAB Design Office—a Mexican firm led by Joshua Beck and Joana Gomes—conceptualised the house with great care so as to preserve the trees surrounding the plot.

One of the main objectives was to create an experience that allowed coexistence with nature. This idea can be seen from the entrance of the house hidden by an Arecas garden. The stone resulting from the excavation was used to build the walls of the house while in the interior spaces are polished in white cement, that offset against the light greyflooring.

The firm also used local wood that was treated to a soft tone, which provides warmth and further reinforces a sense of peace. The ground floor features furniture designed by CO-LAB Design Office, manufactured in collaboration with artisans from Yucatán. A pair of sliding glass doors lead to the wooden terrace with the pool and the garden. The bedrooms are both bright and welcoming, and occupy the upper floor and offer views to the lush greenery. For the firm it was very important to create a permanent connection betweenarchitectureand nature, so a system of solar panels for electricity was installed. In addition, the windows were oriented to take advantage of the winds from the east and west, and allow the house to stay cool naturally, at all times.

With its restricted colour and material palette, as well as its clean lines, this vacation home embodies harmony and tranquility.
