Wallspeak Where vintage poster art is the new canvas of creativity

A wall has always been different things to different people: a canvas to announce your loyalty to the cinematic heartthrob of the time; or as a backdrop to stunning artistic acquisitions. But what it has always been is a medium through which to reflect individual character and preferences. Now, paying homage to the wall as a platform for “everyday creativity” is Wallspeak. This exhibit of a versatile array of wall ‘art' is the outcome of a collaboration between home decor and lifestyle store, Design Temple and Nilaya, creator of finely crafted wallpapers by Asian Paints. Divya Thakur, curator and founder of Design Temple says, "As a dynamic platform for design in India, we were keen to find a way for our collaboration with Nilaya to contribute beyond the realm of the store and inspire design-focused conversation. I was curious to explore how that may impact the notion of home and individual representations of space. We've tried to answer what makes expressive walls, endure.”

They certainly have, with an exhibit that spans the spectrum of personalized everyday creativity, from lithographs, calendar art and studio portraiture to travel snapshots, graduation certificates and filmstars' posters. The exhibit also includes photographers by renowned photographer Diedi von Schaewen of wall decorations popular in rural homes.

‘Wallspeak' is being showcased at The Design Temple store, Colaba, Mumbai.
