当Mahek Lalan SML建筑师第一次访问this home, although he stayed for just an hour, he witnessed a sunset so extraordinary, that it went on to define the design theme of this apartment. “The sky transitioned from a soft pink to a dramatic grey, hinting at possible colour schemes that could combine grey and pink in various capacities and scales,” he says. Lalan was given carte blanche for the project and chose to draw inspiration from the clients' down-to-earth lifestyle. “They led a very simple life; that for us was the starting point for the design. Also, as a practice, we use only natural materials for our projects.”
Living Room
Lalan's sky-inspired palette finds rare expression in the ceiling, which is emblazoned with a sweeping, dusk-grey hue. A three-seater sofa and a pair of armchairs made of reclaimed Burma teak wood inspire an air of old-world technicolour, while a black river-finished granite centre table and hemp area rug tame the hard lines and cuts of the furniture. Vintage charm glimmers through a four-piece series of artworks—featuring a gramophone player, a typewriter, a cassette and a still camera—which root the room in a languid, lingering sense of nostalgia. Lalan notes, “We sought to establish a visual continuum by way of materials, colours and textures. You'll notice pale pink and grey ebb and flow across spaces, along with the yellowish gold of the teak wood and the dull yellow of the patterned Shahabad floor.”
Dining Room
“餐厅附近生活room and the first space one notices when entering the home through the main door,” shares Lalan. A reclaimed Burma teak wood dining table with a black frame and a flame-finished granite table-top is the tour de force of the dining room, while “the chairs are the iconic mid-century ‘Wishbone Chair' by Hans Wegner.” A trifecta of rose-and-black paintings overarch the dining table, diffusing the dark aesthetic with a bouquet of blush hues.
