Los Angeles: 10 designers recently reinvented…time

In the fifth edition of Object Permanence—the quarterly event in LA—designers redesigned the conventional clock

Object Permanence, a show co-curated by Leah Ring and Emma Holland Denvir, is a quarterly event that centres on individual interpretations of a specific prompt. In celebration of a new year and new decade, the recently concluded show—Edition 5—showcased original works by 10 Los Angeles–based designers that consider the passing of time in terms of the clock. Leah and Emma kept the brief loose, which allowed participants the freedom to express their vision and highlight their particular expertise in a broad range of materials. “We reached out to designers for each round,” says Leah, “trying to keep in mind a mix of materials and style and trying to make sure we get a blend of more established studios alongside emerging designers.”

Timeline

The original show was slated for March 14, but the event was postponed due to the pandemic, and a charity auction was put together soon after to take its place. Since then, Leah and Emma have revised their mission for Object Permanence. Not only is the goal to be driven by fostering community within the design industry, but also to help designers use their talents to give back to their communities through meaningful donations to organisations promoting community wellness and creativity.

A Special Initiative

The roster of Los Angeles–based designers who participated in the fifth iteration included Entler Studio, Ryan Belli, Vincent Pocsik, Morgan Peck, and others. The artists were generously donating their works for the Object Permanence charity auction to raise funds for the Black Art Futures Fund. The live auction took place on Object Permanence's Instagram last month.
