Grand with a generous dose of rugged charm, this Hyderabad home is certainly a sight to behold

Designed and owned by NA Architects, this luxurious home shows a seamless interplay of greenery, textures and eco-friendly materials

One of the first aspects that grab your attention in this home is its scale. Sprawled across 9,023-square-feet in Hyderabad's tony Jubilee Hills, the façade with its floor-to-ceiling windows and abundance of natural light makes a stunning first impression. The two story house (along with a semi-basement) titled NR House belongs to and has been designed by Niroop Kumar Reddy, principal architect, NA Architects. The home is conceptualised such that it mirrors the personalities and lifestyles of its inhabitants.

Sustainability meets Luxury

One of the guiding principles of NR House issustainabilitythat is reflected in the natural palette and semiprecious and natural stone accents seen through the home. "Our natural material palette is composed of renewable elements like stone, wood, organic fabrics, metal and brass. We juxtaposed these diverse materials to create harmonious interiors that reflect our lifestyle," shares Reddy. "Our focus was to achieve sustainability with luxury. We wanted to show the world that sustainable homes can be luxurious. Being our own home, we had the liberty to experiment with it," he adds. Another sustainable aspect of this home is the terrace that is used for organic vegetation and solar panels that provide electricity.

Interestingly, the natural stone that was available at the site has been incorporated as a design element inside the home as well as in the landscape. Similarly, the exposed concrete ceilings with different embedded designs throughout the home create intriguing textures. The ample use of marble, brass inlays and metallic accents add to the sophistication of the space.

Maximising Space

The design of the home features elements that maximise the perception of space. For instance, the cavity doors blur the lines between the outdoors and indoors while also allowing the free flow of air. Similarly, strategically placed clerestory windows allow natural light to flow in, while frameless windows and apertures showcase the surrounding courtyards, thus amplifying the space.

Entrance

The 20 feet high main door does justice to the grandeur of the home and is the focal point of the ground floor. The door together with the monolithic stone-clad wall makes the experience of entering the home a grand affair.

Living Room

The familyliving roomis an extension of the formal double height living room. Here, the rustic stone clad wall forms a backdrop for the sofa while the fire place is integrated into the TV unit. Another point of interest here are the steps leading to the lobby—these are actually boulders that were shaped into stairs.

Lap Pool

The living room opens out onto the lap pool which stretches along the entire length of the ground floor, in a way connecting all the spaces at the lower level. The entire ground floor was envisaged as a space for entertainment both indoors and outdoors and offers beautiful views of the pool deck area as well as the dense foliage outside.

Dining Room

餐厅是一个平静的避难所纽佐尔l tones and uninterrupted views of the east garden. The exposed concrete ceiling adds rugged charm to the space. A tubular glass light above the dining table offers an artistic touch.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom too is bathed in neutral tones and is elegant with its minimalistic vibe. The graffiti wall forms a backdrop for the bed. But perhaps the pièce de résistance is the terrace replete with a garden and outdoor jacuzzi and the views of the city beyond.

Son's Room

The son's room is spread across two levels—the lower level features the lounge and study area while the upper level has the sleeping area and bathroom.

Daughter's Room

The daughter's room is elegantly feminine with its modern classical white theme. Handmade porcelain flowers that adorn the room add another dimension. A playful element is added to the room via the artwork on one end of the wall.

Bar

The bar that's housed in the semi basement is a place to unwind and relax. The focal point here is the original 1920 Lambretta scooter, innovatively used as the bar counter.

Home Theatre

The home theatre features black clad walls and a concrete ceiling with a rippled texture. A fabric embroidered zebra on the walls adds a quirky element.
