Design Miami 2016: Inside this year’s Swiss edition

The 2016 Basel edition of Design Miami has an India connect

It is the best place to be if you want to know everything there is to know about the goings-on in the world of design, the innovations afoot and the designers bringing them to you. And it is here once again. Design Miami, this time in Basel, Switzerland, is all set to impress with a line-up of masterfully crafted 20th and 21st century furniture exhibitions sure to capture the imagination of design influencers and connoisseurs alike.

And, this year, Design Miami forges an Indian connection in unexpected ways through the works being showcased by Galerie Patrick Seguin and Brussels-based design studio MANIERA.

虽然Galerie帕特里克Segui的焦点n's showcase is John Prouvé's demountable houses, other legends, too, get floor space. The works of Charlotte Peirriand, the legendary Le Corbusier—the man who built Punjab—and Pierre Jeanneret, whose furniture has become ubiquitous in government offices in India, are also going to be exhibited. The highlight though is Prouvé's Maxéville Design Office, a prefab 10x12-metre structure that was conceived by him as a solution to postwar housing. While the design found no takers, Prouvé used the prototype he created as an office in his studio in France.

At the other end of the spectrum, acclaimed Indian architect Bijoy Jain-led firm Studio Mumbai, will have its work displayed courtesy of MANIERA, the design firm that collaborates with artists and architects to get out of their comfort zone and express their creativity through a different medium—furniture, in this case.

Design Miami is an opportunity to get acquainted with the future of design. Don't miss it! Though, if you do, stay tuned for some Postcards from the fair... Watch this space for more.

Design Miami will be held from 14–19 June in Basel, Switzerland
