A Zaha Hadid Architects and Anish Kapoor collaboration makes it to the shortlist for UK Holocaust Memorial in London

The Memorial aims at reflecting and honouring the lives affected in the Holocaust

The British Government launched an international two-stage design competition to build a National Memorial in honour of the victims and survivors of the Holocaust. From over 90 participants in the competition, ten were shortlisted by a jury that included Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London and Dame Julia Peyton-Jones, former director of Serpentine Galleries. Among the ten shortlisted participants are David Adjaye, Foster + Partners, Anish Kapoor and Zaha Hadid Architects.

The guidelines required the contestants to keep in mind that their designs were to give an unwavering outline of the atrocities committed under the Nazi regime and yet be a powerful platform to help people develop a deeper understanding of the human race and the implications of hatred.

The memorial's site is set to be located adjacent to the UK Parliament in the Victoria Tower Gardens along the River Thames.

The designs which include above-ground landscapes of the Memorial and subterranean Learning Centre, are now on display across locations in the United Kingdom for people across communities to view and comment on. The project is estimated to cost over GBP 40 million.

The final results of the competition will be released by the summer of 2017.
